As spring approaches I find myself dreaming of riding about town on cute little bicycle. I don’t need all the bells and whistles, just something simple in kelly green or apple red with a wicker flower basket in front. Oh and perhaps an old fashioned bell… Yes, a bell is a must. Above, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn looking terribly chic on their bicycles. What about you, do you own a bike? What sort would you recommend?
Jane says
i love my vinatge blue schwinn. the original seat and bell were major selling points, and you cant go wrong with a classic.

I don’t own a bike but it is something BTG has been heavily campaigning for since last summer. He is an avid biker but I fear his taste in cycles is far more Lance Armstrong than the ladies pictured above. Ancientindustries.com has a perfect wicker basket for you.

Jane — I was thinking a Schwinn may be the way to go! I adore yours!!! And yes, we do love the classics : )
MT — Can’t wait to check out this basket you speak of! You’re always full of helpful tips! XO

I’m craving my bike too! My husband and I received matching bikes for Christmas because my mother in law noticed my enthusiasm for riding them especially when I visit the beach. My bike isn’t a smance brand, but it’s candy apple red, and my future plans for it include a bell and a basket ;) Hope you find that perfect bike! If only I could look as stylish as Audrey, Grace, and Brigitte!

I can’t wait to get back out on my bike and use my little basket for the farmers market or maybe to carry Jolene around in (I just got this one: http://www.emmohome.com/design-house-stockholm-carrie-bicycle-basket.html and love it)!! XOXO

I’ve been dreaming about getting a lovely cruiser for this spring. Just dreaming about trips to the farmer’s market on a bike is getting me through this yicky weather we’re having today in Boston!

I’ve been collecting pics of people on bikes..love yours especially Grace Kelly!! I do love my bike but it is nothing fancy but perfect for riding the kids to school. Have you seen the Liberty of London for Target bike? It rocks!!!
Stephanie @ La Dolce Vita says
Great shots! For me, it’s an Electra Bike cruiser, and I want a bicycle basket in front. The Liberty of London Target bike is adorable too – but I have a feeling that one will go super fast!
Best,
Stephanie

Roxy — Candy apple red?! How I envy you! Thanks for stopping by—I’m sure you’re right up there with Grace, Audrey and Brigette! XO
Amanda — SOOOOO cute! Perfect for farmers market, you are so freaking adorable!
Abbie — I feel you on the icky weather front! Soon enough we’ll be peddling through the markets (or at least that’s what I tell myself…sigh).
Blue Hydrangea — I didn’t know Liberty did a bike for Target too?! Must check this out! Oh and I adore the Grace Kelly shot as well, in fact, I think it may be my all time favorite of her. So chic!
Stephanie — Another vote for the Liberty eh? I need to find it pronto. And will look up the Electra! You are so helpful! XOXOXO

I discovered when I moved to San Diego that everyone on campus seems to have a bicycle. I’d love a cute teal one with a basket to get around in, but I still need to save up some money…and figure out how to navigate all the hills here.

My daughter has a really cool yellow beach cruiser bike with a basket, that I ride when I can get away with it. I do want my own but in blue definitely with a basket too! Have a great day, Kate! :)

Brandi — So true about San Diego. You’ll get that teal bicycle one of these days. I have to pinch my pennies too!
Cathi — A yellow beach cruiser?! Lucky daughter you have there! I can’t wait to see your future blue cruiser. Hope you have a wonderful day as well! XO

i love my orange electra! my husband bought it for me for my birthday last year. it is perfect for cycling around the city and i love having a basket on front for keys, wallet, farmer’s market purchases, rocks collected from the beach, etc. I feel like i am 10 years old again. it is a comfortable and smooth ride. the one negative, it is pretty heavy. my husband has to carry it up and down the stairs for me in our condo building.

Do check out Electra bikes… http://www.electrabike.com/home.php
I just bought the Townie Original in Orange Pearl last fall and it is simply a dream to ride. Electra has all sorts of fun accessories like baskets, handlebar flowers, and bells… Ding, ding!
Cordially,

Claire — This sounds perfect (especially the rocks at the beach part) and I do love orange! We have an elevator right now, but if we move somewhere with steps I always have my John : )
Ms. Manor — It’s official, I want an Electra! The Orange Pearl shade is to die for! I’m green with jealousy! Thank you for stopping in and sharing this with me! XO
OHHHH and Electra has a bike named the “Ticino” — that’s the region where I lived in Switzerland! Hello Electra, IT’S FATE!!!
