   seems like you’re not aware katie, but a white supremacist was elected president. perhaps it’s not the time for faux fur pom pom heels. lot’s of bloggers use the excuse that we still need distraction and beauty during hard times. sure, but maybe take a break from affiliate links for 5 seconds and share some solidarity with fellow americans who are disgusted and devastated by this lot. the lives and livelihoods of many others are at risk.

   Ella – When I post pro-Hilary anything I also get criticized so as a blogger I’m rather “damned if I do, damned if I don’t.” I was proud to have cast my absentee ballot for Hilary and was personally devastated by yesterday’s outcome, but yesterday was also the victory of millions of Americans that have felt marginalized and overlooked in our own country (I refuse to dismiss every single Trump supporter as a misogynist or racist). Forgive me, if I don’t see things as black and white. I would also add that shopping for high heels yesterday (or any day) doesn’t make a woman less intelligent, politically aware, or worthy. I make my living from this blog and simply because I post about design doesn’t mean I lost my right to show up to work yesterday. I respect your opinion and appreciate your readership, but we’ll have to agree to disagree. If you’re looking for divisive political commentary, there are thousands of news outlets happy to serve you.

   Katie,
   Being the mother of a little girl and an environmentalist, the election results on Tuesday were very traumatic for me. I am by no means trying to ignore the scary things that are happening, and I am well and truly scared for my daughter. However, there is a limit to how much can deal with, and I am so burned out from all the hate that has been in the news and all over Facebook. I didn’t realize how much I needed to see something that wasn’t political. I was so happy (and very relieved) to see a “business as usual” post here today. Seeing all the pretty things reminded me that the world didn’t end and helped ease my anxiety just a little. Thank you.

   Sivy – Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I felt very much the same yesterday, hence my unplugging from the political firestorm to (admittedly rather numbly) publish this post. I cried as the results came in. My friends and family members cried. But I think the only path forward is through healing—through kindness and at least attempted understanding. It is my hope that America holds its head high and that its citizens treat one another with compassion. I think we could all use some right about now.
