There are so many things I want to do and see when I get settled in Chicago and one of them is the newly opened “Maker & Muse: Women & Early 20th Century Jewelry” exhibition at the Driehaus Museum. The exhibit features more than 250 brooches, necklaces, bracelets, and tiaras on loan from various private collectors, the Chicago History Museum, and the Tiffany & Co. archives. Though it isn’t typically my design period of choice (late Victorian to World War I), I’m anxious to admire the craftsmanship and precious gems up close. The coral mermaid brooch at top is terribly cool as far as I’m concerned (two words: granny chic).
