These old black and white shots by fashion photographer John French stopped me in my tracks. French was highly sought after in London in the 1950’s and 1960’s and his photos seem to capture the era’s glamour perfectly. Feathers, rhinestones and dainty white gloves—what’s not to love?

I’m fascinated by how current the second to last photo looks. It could be in any magazine today and now one would think it was from the 50’s or 60’s.
Those last two dresses are swoon worth. Either one could be worn today. Love them. Love all of it.
When I first ran across the photos of John French, I created a pose book in the spirit of the 50s/60s. I use it for reference in a pinch for photoshoots.

I know we’re all here at this moment in time and this place in the world for a reason, but sometimes it’s hard to not get dreamy for past decades.
Right now I’m caught up in all the romantic ideas of what Paris might have been like in the 1920s, when writers like Hemingway and Fitzgerald were there.
I wonder what people 90 years in the future will think about when they look back to this decade. What will be the iconic images, the styles that linger on, the writers whose work stand the test of time?
