1st Dibs just granted me a wish come true by featuring dashing young decorator Miles Redd in their Style Compass. The article if full of insights as to Redd’s design aesthetic and inspirations. He understands, as all legendary designers do, that creating a masterpiece requires knowledge and appreciation of all different art forms, not only those within one’s own discipline. Redd specifically appreciates and is influenced by photographers (Avedon, Penn), fashion designers (Oscar de la Renta, original Dior, Lanvin) and fine artists (Elizabeth Peyton, illustrator Rene Gruau). I have always admired Redd’s ability to be both modern and traditional—the best of both worlds. While his use of color and pattern is often bold and modern, he still appreciates older traditions like dinner parties and entertaining. Apparently, he is wanting to start a supper club! What we would give for an invite!
