Yesterday I came home to the most beautiful gift in the mail. The darling Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic had sent me the book above, Dreaming in French by Megan McAndrew. I’ve only read the first twenty-or-so pages and find myself utterly enthralled! The novel tells the story of a “superficially glamorous” expatriate family in late 1970s Paris. The mother is this fantastically eccentric, stylish character from Kentucky and I’ve already grown to love her. I can’t wait for the weekend to begin so I can curl up and read the rest! As a petit homage to Heather’s thoughtful gift I thought I’d share some of my favorite Avedon photographs of Paris…
Thank you Heather and bon weekend my sweet Neo-Trads!

I haven’t read a book in so long because every time I have a free moment, I’m reading all of your blogs! But, this one looks great & I think I’ll have to try it. Much love doll!
Gwen — I know the feeling, trust me. Sadly this is the first first book I’ve hunkered down to read in a long while. It’s reminded me how much I miss reading! XO
I’m intruiged… sounds like a perfect book for a rainy day. thanks for sharing!
Kirby — PERFECT book for a rainy day indeed! I’m trying my very best to stay at my desk and get some work done—so tempting to sneak into bed and read it! XO
these are all soo great :)
love love love these
My how you’ve inspired me to go pick this up later. Looks delightful! Have a nice weekend.
That sounds like a fantastic book! I LOVE those pictures! I want to visit France so badly, and one day I will. For now, I will listen to French music and pretend I’m there.
Jenna — I hope you enjoy as much as I am! Thanks for stopping in and saying hello. XO
Stevi — You are SO darling. Seriously, that’s how I spent my entire childhood, just dreaming of France. You’ll get there one day and the best part is, even after all the dreaming about it, it won’t disappoint. Paris never does. XO
I must look into that book, sounds dreamy…..
anything Parisian is wonderful.

Such wonderful images! Happy Friday!
Let us know how you like the book … I see a Kindle download in the near future! What a lovely surprise. Gorgeous gorgeous photos… I needed some Paris right now.

What beautiful pictures and the book sounds fab, I will have to find it and dive in.
I loved the book and thought you would too so I’m so happy to hear that you actually do! Thanks again for featuring me as one of your Plucky Pioneers. I was honored to be included in such a creative and talented group! Bon Weekend!
I love a good book recommendation, and I can’t wait to add this to my list.
The Richard Avedon pictures were the perfect thing to get me through this Friday! The first image so perfectly captures the feeling of being in Paris – as though your feet don’t even touch the ground.
I love reading a book that is a complete page turner…it’s the best way to spend a day :)! I haven’t heard of this one but it sounds great. You’ve inspired me to check it out of the library!! Enjoy your weekend :)
Shannon — I couldn’t have said it better myself “your feet don’t even touch the ground” — so true of Paris!
Piper — How I love libraries. I need to spend more time at ours and less at Barnes and Noble! XO
What a nice gift! Love the Avedon photographs, especially the two chatting ladies.
Love the pictures!!!
You should read “Almost French” – I can’t remember who the author is, but I have it at home if you want to borrow it (email me). It’s about a young girl from Australia who meets and falls in love with a French man, and her acclimating to living in Paris. It is wonderful! Hysterical at times, and so full of imagery.
Hope you have a great weekend too!!!
I am an expat from Texas in France and now I too must have this book! Thanks for the Avedon photos.
Terrific choice. Rainy day reading indeed. Enjoy the rest of the weekend! Marija
I want to read this!! I’m loving all of the french-setting trend in novels these days… it’s like they are calling me back to the books :)
I’ll put it on my “to read” list for sure. The endless “to read” list :o)
