If you love gathered fabric lampshades as much as I do, you’ll go crazy for the creations of New England-based Perrotine. Founded by Lis Herbert (an avid gardener and former letterpress printer!), the company specializes in handmade fabric lampshades made from vintage textiles such as Indian silk saris, cotton block prints, Uzbek ikats, and Indonesian batiks. Lis stitches the fabric to the frames by hand, always including marvelous trim, linen lining, and often a playful tassel for good measure. She also creates custom made to order silk, cotton, and linen shades based on clients’ specifications and has an impressive archive of silks to choose from. I love perusing Lis’ instagram to see her latest creations and the textiles that are currently inspiring her. The shades are made in Lincoln, Massachusetts and can be purchased online and at a few select brick and mortar boutiques.
