I still owe you all a proper Copenhagen city guide, but in the meantime, I thought I’d share some photos I snapped yesterday at one of my favorite Danish destinations, Frederiksborg Castle. Located in Hillerød, about 45 minutes north of central Copenhagen by train, the Dutch Renaissance style castle was built in the early 1600s by King Christian IV. The building tragically burnt to the ground in 1859, but was eventually rebuilt by the owner of the Carlsberg Breweries, J. C. Jacobsen. I’ve visited the property three times now (it’s open 365 days a year!) and love wandering from room to room admiring the spectacular portrait collection. In the summertime, the ground’s Baroque garden (complete with boxwoods trimmed to depict the royal monogram) is lovely to visit. Below, enjoy some photos from my recent wintertime visit. From here on out, I promise to take my DSLR camera on all my adventures!
