I don’t know about you, but I love all things fall. Bring on the cozy fires, changing leaves, and hot apple cider. Here in Denmark creating a cozy home is practically a national pastime (see hygge…) so I thought I’d pass along some foolproof tips. Below, enjoy twelve ideas for prepping your home for the autumn season.
#1 / Put a throw on it.
Whether you’re partial to plaid, herringbone, or a classic cashmere, fall is the season for accessorizing with blankets. Drape one over the back of a chair or sofa and another at the foot of your bed. Below are some new fun options.
Adelaide Throw (other colors available)
#2 / Hang a wreath.
Too soon? No way. Perhaps hold off on the holly, but a festive autumn wreath is lovely this time of year. It’s the perfect way to welcome guests and step up your front door’s curb appeal.
#3 / Light some candles.
Danes burn more candles than any country in Europe and I’ve definitely caught candle fever. If you love fragrance, consider trying my favorite Feu de Bois, but scentless candles are just as chic thanks to their flattering glow.
Feu de Bois Diptyque Candle (smells like a crackling fire, my favorite fall scent!)
Hot Cider Candle (other colors available)
Jo Malone English Oak and Red Currant Candle
#4 / Swap out your throw pillows.
Adding new throw pillows to the mix is an inexpensive and fun way to play with seasonal decorating. For fall, I’m loving burgundy and animal print pillows like the ones below.
Scalamandre Tiger Pillow Cover
Burgundy Silk Ikat Velvet Pillow
#5 / Buy beautiful mugs.
We drink a lot of tea around here (my Englishman has converted me) and sipping from a lovely teacup or handsome coffee mug makes it all the more enjoyable. Donate your old mismatched mugs and treat yourself to a lovely new set like the beauties below.
#6 / Get cozy underfoot.
Area rugs can transform a room and I love the feel of our cozy Moroccan rugs underfoot. This fall, layers something soft on your floors. A great option? A modern interpretation of the beni ourain, like the Huxley design below.
#7 / Dress your bed in the luxurious linens.
As the temps drop, you’ll be thankful for the extra coziness and warmth. High thread count sheets are the ultimate luxury and make hunkering down at home in the wintertime all the more appealing.
Linden Sheet Set (love this new pattern! other colors available)
Gingham Check Organic Sheet Set (other colors available)
Gingham Sheet Set (other colors available)
#8 / Step up your table setting game.
Setting a festive table is an autumnal must. Layer velvets, plaids, linens, and rustic inspired accents to celebrate the fall season. You don’t have to spend a fortune, maybe just treat yourself to a new set of linen napkins or some pretty gold flatware (love its warm glow).
#9 / Embrace faux fur.
Nothing says fall like a faux fur accent. I love it on pillows and throws. Instant chic.
#10 / Stock your bar cart.
Now is the time to start stocking up on ingredients for spiced cider, moscow mules, and hot toddies. Treat yourself to some copper mugs for the full effect.
#11 / Add a touch of velvet.
My favorite trend of the 2017 holiday season? Velvet. It’s everywhere from your wardrobe to your living room and I couldn’t be more pleased. Incorporate velvet into your interior with velvet pillows, placemats, or ribbons (tie a bow for understatedly chic napkin rings).
#12 / Pay a visit to the pumpkin patch.
Last but not least, decorate with tried and true pumpkins or gourds. I love large pumpkins at the front door and small white pumpkins down the center of your dining table or on your fireplace mantle. Simple and chic!

Great post! Now if we can just have the temp start dropping in the South East region of the states life would be perfect!

This post is perfection and got me into the fall spirit! {Which is sorely needed since I live in Texas and fall rarely arrives before November!} Thanks for such cozy ideas. Off to light a candle!

Jenny – I’m envious you have warmth still! We never really had summer in Scandinavia so it’s felt like fall for months, hah!
Phyllis – Texas is somewhere I want to explore more if we ever return Stateside! Hope you enjoy your candle!
