Ever dreamed of walking on water…? I’m itching to get to Italy to experience artist Christo’s latest creation, The Floating Piers. The interactive installation consists of a 2-mile floating walkway on Lake Iseo connecting the mainland to two islands, usually only accessible by boat. The piers were constructed with floating recycled cubes covered in bright saffron-colored fabric. First conceptualized in 1970 by Christo and his late partner, Jeanne-Claude, the fully realized masterpiece must be quite the sight to behold. Having gone to college in the nearby city of Lugano, the lake district is an corner of the globe near and dear to my heart. The installation is only open for 16 days (June 18 – July 3) and has had an overwhelming amount of visitors (97,000 people visited last Wednesday alone!). Have you ever experienced one of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s works in person? What a dream!
