HI KATE
LOVED YOUR PICTURES FOR LEVI. YOUR INTERVIEW ALWAYS IS WAY TOO FLATTERING OF THE GRANDMOTHER. BUT THANKS FOR THE PRESS. YOU ARE A BIT TOO SKINNY IF THOSE PICTURES ARE NOT AIR-BRUSHED. I WORRY YOU ARE NOT EATING YOUR TEN BOWLS OF CEREAL EACH DAY.
I’M GOING TO BE IN NEW YORK IN NOV. STAYING WITH PAT J. IN CONN. WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU AND BROTHER JOE ON MONDAY THE 5TH FOR DINNER. I WILL BE COMING BACK FROM PHILADELPHIA ON THE TRAIN AS I AM GOING DOWN TO SEE THE BARNES COLLECTION ON SUNDAY. HOPE TO BE BACK IN NEW YORK ABOUT 5 OCLOCK ON MONDAY THE 5TH. HOPE THAT WORKS FOR YOU. WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOUR APT BUT I KNOW YOU ARE BUSY. HAVE THEATER TICKETS FOR “BOOK OF MORMONS” AND THE IRISH REPERTORY ON 22ND ST. DURING THE WEEK. ALSO THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY EXHIBIT ON THE WESTSIDE RE: N.Y. DURING WORLD WAR 2. ALSO THE MET’S WARHOL EXHIBIT. ALSO GOING DOWN TO ELLIS ISLAND TO LOOK UP THE LOUSY IRISH RELATIVES. I HAVE NOT BEEN THERE SINCE IT WAS RENOVATED.
ANYWAY WILL BE ANXIOUS TO SEE YOU.
TWO WORDS ALWAYS,
RITA M.

Best line: ALSO GOING DOWN TO ELLIS ISLAND TO LOOK UP THE LOUSY IRISH RELATIVES.
This makes me super miss my NaNa, who also sent charming and to-the-point emails. You’re so lucky!
This email really makes me want to meet Grandma Rita. I’m sure she is a treasure!
Oh my goodness, what a clever, witty, glamorous, and overly concerned grandma. Just like they should be! She’s a hoot.
Everything about this post made me smile…even though I don’t know Ms. Rita. I love her spunk, her tenacity to take the train, hit the theaters, exhibits and pay respects to the ‘lousy relative.’
I will be thinking of her and her visit all day…and smiling.
Thank you for this. And, if you will, please give her a hug from CA for me when you see her on the 5th.
Amazing.
Love this email! I wish my grandma could write me emails…in English. haha
Oh Katie (and Rita), this just made me smile out loud! I absolutely adore your obvious love for your grandmother, and how wonderfully chic and cultured she appears to be (what a wonderful role model to have in your life)
Thank you for sharing this little snippet of joy!
Briony xx
I want to be like her when I grow up!
the best email ever and you may just have the coolest grandmother ever. Book of Mormon tickets!? Amazing!
Christin – The question is why is she not taking ME to the Book of Mormon?! I’m calling her. hahaha
Oh how I love grandmothers!! Yours is a classy stunner as was mine. Miss her everyday. Thanks for sharing an adorable note (have to look up my lousy Irish relatives on Ellis someday too…)
Icon. Is all I have to say….
This definitely made me chuckle, makes me miss my grandma and her blunt humor!
Oh my gosh, this is the most adorable thing!! She sounds like the ULTIMATE Matchbook girl, no surprise there!
,,,what a charming email from your grandmother, not too mention she is quite the social butterfly! cheers to grandparents who love their grandchildren and set the bar really high!,,,
,,,p.s. how many bowls of cereal have you had today? (smile),,,
Rebecca – One bowl thus far :) That comment was a wonderful jab at my love of carbs and serious lack of cooking skills, hahahaha
She is so glamourous!!
How lucky you are to have a fabulous grandmother. I really never had a relationship with either of mine. Relish every moment.
She’s even more fabulous than you give her credit for–love this!
This is the sweetest email, my grandmother writes all of her emails in all caps too!

This is priceless!
I don’t even know where to begin. The 10 bowls of cereal, the lousy Irish relatives…
Your grandmother definitely is too hilarious for words! This e-mail is straightforward and to the point but really gives off a feeling of care and affection. Katie, you are such a lucky ducky to have such a cool sounding grandmother!
Here’s to cracking up at such a funny e-mail and to amazing grandmothers the world over :)
When you see your darling grandmother, please do give her a hug (or two or three or more) from all of your blog readers. She deserves them for her spunk!

Your grandma is fantastic! What a treasure to have in your life. :)
i have yet to leave a comment on your blog – but this is CLASSIC. eat your cereal, darling!
There is a special bond between a girl and her grandmother. Some of my favorite travel memories are with her, and she will always be my favorite pen pal.
What a classy lady!!!
Love following your blog! Adore this post! Really made me smile!
Thank you for all your sweet comments! I wish you could all meet Rita — she’s every bit as fun and wonderful as her email suggests. I suppose I should tell her I published this…
….and how fortunate am I that she’s been in my life since we were in the 3rd grade together….ooooh the adventures we’ve had….and she’s been my pal through ” thick and thin” and in between….needless to say, I love her dearly and treasure our friendship!! XXOO to you, dear Katie……and EAT!!!
She is simply FABULOUS Katie. And of course all of that genetic goodness went straight to you!!
