L-O-V-E this Fire Island retreat featured in Country Living belonging to West Elm creative director, Alex Bates. The glossy white walls and ceilings give the small space such light and I absolutely adore the large tortoise shells on the enclosed front porch. The built-in daybed on the porch allows it to double as a guest bedroom—what I would give to be their guest! Little cottages like these have me longing for the day John and I buy our first home!
Oh my goodness, major swoon. I may just have to post this – gorgeous!!
P.S. Thanks for your sweet comments about our engagement pics! : )
Colleen my love — Post away! Country Living is featuring great stuff since their makeover, I love whenever they’re recognized. And you engagement photos are seriously darling, don’t even get me started… XX
wow & sigh
That’s Alex Bates’ home?! Wow. Love it. Especially love spotting the “contemporary” West Elm pieces mixed in with the beachy decor.
oooh wow, WOW!!
oh my gosh, i LOVE this! so beautiful.
This retreat is heavenly! It’s exactly what I need right now. Actually, I think I may try to book a nice weekend away for me and my boyfriend.
SWOON! I love the hat display, the all white and bead board in the kitchen, and the white brick fire place in the living room. Can I have this home?
This is exactly what we dream about! A little cottage would be the perfect first home, and that screened-in porch is Heaven!

Like a summer dream…
Ohh, this makes me long to embrace my inner WASP. Or to just play a giant outdoor chess game :)
It’s so beautiful! how relaxing it must be to escape here on the weekends.
xx Kirby
I want to live there
This house is gorgeous! I love it. I picked up an antique tortoise shell at an estate sale for $48; it was such a steal! I haven’t known exactly where to put it though and so this is giving me ideas.

I’ve been wanting a Fire Island summer vacation for years, now I’m even more motivated to make it happen!!
