This weekend’s flea market adventure resulted in the purchase of this small yellow china dish and a set of twenty vintage San Francisco photographs. The plate is by Myott Son & Co. formerly located in Staffordshire, England and judging by the mark is from 1910-1940. Little is known about the company due to a fire in 1949 that destroyed their valuable pattern books and records. I’ll be using it to hold paperclips. As for the photos, they are very tiny (2.5″ x 3.5″) which I think only adds to their charm. Above is a shot of the clock tower at the Ferry Building.
The set also included the Palace of Fine Arts, the Opera House, Chinatown, the Legion of Honor, Coit Tower, Mission Dolores, the Cliff House and many other locations I remember fondly from the city by the bay. Judging by people’s dress and the antique automobiles, my best guess is that they date back to the 1930’s.
Eager to get them up, I plopped down on my John Robshaw striped rug and got to work. Creating a 3 x 3 collage on mat board took seconds and then I simply threw them in a thin, black inexpensive frame. Voila! Now, if I only had wall space…
