Hello, my dears. I’d alluded to some BIG NEWS recently and this is it! We bought our first home and are moving to Greensboro, North Carolina. I have dreamed of owning (and decorating!) my own place for ages and couldn’t be more thrilled. The new house has a very Southern feel with lots of quirky charm like a laundry chute, a wood-paneled library (complete with a gun cabinet…lordy lordy), and a proper sunroom begging to be filled with wicker furniture. While we love Seattle, my husband and I will both be working from home so we wanted more space and a city with more diversity for our black son. We have lots of friends in the North Carolina and it just feels right. I haven’t actually seen the home in person (you know I love an adventure!), but Simon did fly out to see it before we put in the offer.
Tomorrow we leave for a week-long road trip across country with two pugs and Gabe (he’s now 21 months and full of energy!). Needless to say, pray for us! Stay tuned for lots of photos of the new place and plenty of home renovation and decoration content (I’ve got six bathrooms to decorate—bring on the wallpaper!). I can’t wait to share this exciting chapter of our lives with all of you.
Love, Katie
So happy for you and your family. I’ve followed you for years and years, and it’s been amazing seeing you start your beautiful family. I’m sure you’re already on top of this, but once you get settled into that new house, be sure to register to vote in your new home state of North Carolina! It’s going to be an important state in the upcoming election! Love to you and yours
I’m just down the road in Durham! After following you for years, I’m selfishly/irrationally happy to have you in our state. Looking forward to your home updates. Welcome!
Melissa – You’re so sweet! We have lots of friends in the Triangle area and hope to be there often! Would love to hang out sometime! xo
Beth – Love the way you think! I already have an appointment scheduled at the DMV there to get my NC residency established! So excited to vote for Biden Harris in a swing state—never felt like my vote counted more! xoxo
Oh Katie–best wishes to you and Simon and Gabe and the pugs as you start this new adventure! We’ll be watching from here and will miss seeing you around! Thrilled for these next adventures for you and your crew and can’t wait to see the new house! All the best to you!

North Carolina; that means you can grow peonies…lots of peonies to beautify those six bathrooms! I can’t wait to see the photos! Congratulations Kate!
I have been following for years and have never commented before, but I wanted to say that I am so happy for you and your little family. Best of luck with the move and hopefully you will share some home decorating before and afters once you are settled.
Smooth sails and following seas on your next adventure!
Congratulations and best wishes! You could not have chosen a better state.
We’re NC (Raleigh & Chapel Hill) transplants living in Manhattan for over 30 years and will soon be heading back home, with any luck.
“In my mind I’m going to Carolina. Can’t you see the sunshine, can’t you just feel the moonshine?
Ain’t it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind? Yes, I’m going to Carolina in my mind.”
As a life-long Southerner, I want to welcome you to the South! I hope you love your new life in beautiful North Carolina!
Gabe is adorable! He will help his Mommy make lots of friends, very quickly!
I’ve been following for years and years too, and have never commented (but I’ve certainly bought a few things from your links, lol!). It’s been lovely seeing your family grown and I’m so happy for you. I wish you the beat of luck in your move and can’t wait to see your new space and what you do with it!
Hi Katie! Welcome to North Carolina! I am from Greensboro and lived there fro 25 years before moving to DC. Greensboro is a super cool town and if you need any recommendations or info about Greensboro, please let me know! So happy for you and your family. Love you and your blog.
Congrats on the move! I live in Charlotte, NC, and I think you will love raising your family in NC. Safe travels and I hope you’ll share some photos of your journey along the way. And when did Gabe become a big boy??? He is so cute; thank you for letting your followers watch him grow.
Welcome to the South!! I sincerely hope you find the people welcoming and caring. I have found, despite the bad press, most people are being kind and a bit more patient, which we could all use right now. Looking forward to seeing the new digs and definitely praying for your cross-country journey.
Katie, I am so happy for you and your family! I wish you all the best and can’t wait to follow your new adventures. Safe travels. Gabe looks darling, so happy and full of light! Do I detect a bit of mischief in that smile of his?? Take care, Suzanne T.
I have also followed you for years ! I have bought many items you have enjoyed all your adventures over the years. So happy for you and your family and I can’t wait to see what I know will be beaut home !
Hi Katie,
This is crazy! I just checked in on your site for a dose of Daily Hunt. I almost fell out of my chair when I read that you are moving to Greensboro, NC. My husband was born and raised here and I moved here with my family in 1988. We have called Raleigh and Richmond (VA) home before settling back to Greensboro with our two sons. We just bought a wonderful 100 year old quirky home down the street from where we currently live and I, too, am thrilled with the southern charm. I welcome a chat with you and am happy to answer and questions or provide help to you as you settle/renovate, etc.
Welcome to North Carolina! Wishing you every happiness in our beautiful state! Safe travels.
I am so happy for y’all! What a wonderful update! Sending you all my best.
And can’t wait to see what you do with your beautiful home!!
Congratulations! My husband and I live in Greensboro too! So happy that you decided to make it your home. Gabe is a handsome fellow! There are lots of decorating resources here. Try Twin Deer Antique Mall and Design in High Point it’s an awesome! Welcome!
Joey
WOOHOO, Katie! Congratulations on your new digs and the ensuing stress – eer I mean fun and delight decorating it! So happy for your exciting adventure and in the South, too! So jealous of your laundry shoot! Can hardly wait to see pictures of YOUR creative design/decor talent and skill. It’s always a treat to enjoy those features showing off other homes. Now we get to enjoy yours – Yea for us!
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing.
:)

I have been following your stories since Matchbook Magazine :-) I’m very happy for you and your lovely son.
Sending you my best wishes.
Gabe has grown so much – he is almost a little boy now! And that killer smile – what a gift for you and your husband!
I hope you can stand the heat and humidity but NC is a great place to live (I lived in Central Virginia for 25 years). The growing season is long and spring starts in March some years, too. Plant those peonies where you know you will want them – they don’t like to be moved! And you must have a porch filled with wicker – I did and it became like another room for 6 months of the year.
A very wise move for your little guy – he will grow and thrive in Greensboro and meet all kinds of people over his lifetime…and he won’t have to leave for college as Duke is right there!
Good luck and here’s hoping for a good move!
Susan
That is wonderful! I moved to Charlotte from Los Angeles 3 years ago – I love the Carolinas! It is definitely fun exploring this part of the country. Let’s do a High Market meet up! :) Good luck!
I meant High Point – and obviously when the pandemic is over….one can dream.
Congratulations! My sons both went to college down in that area…..two great restaurants The Printery…
But the HUGE draw is this cake place called “MaxieB’s”…..not to be missed…unbelievable…
Gorgeous and delicious and every cake available as a slice or cupcake….!!!
Sorry…restaurants are Printworks and Green Valley Grill
So happy for y’all. Congrats on the move!! Know you will make such a beautiful home in NC and can’t wait to follow along for inspo!
oh welcome! I’m from Greensboro and still visit my parents there! North Carolina is wonderful. Make sure to visit Printworks (I see someone else mentioned it – the interiors are beautiful and every meal I’ve had is wonderful!). Lots of wonderful places to go on walks around Greensboro too! Enjoy!!! I hope y’all meet lots of wonderful neighbors :)
So glad for you,Katie and Simon and Gabe! Loved your comment on your vote never being more important!
You have so many wonderful ideas for making rooms lighter and more inviting. Wow!
Loved the photos of Gabe!!!
