So after some thought (thanks for your input!), I’ve decided to head to Morocco next month! India solo seemed a bit daunting and Portugal is so close I can really go anytime. I’m flying direct from Copenhagen to Marrakech in late November and will have four full days to explore the city. I can’t wait to wander the souks and splurge on a beautiful rug or two! If you’ve been to Marrakech before, I’d love to hear your tips. Do you have a guide you’d recommend? Where should I dine/shop/explore…? I will be sure to share my Marrakech favorites upon my return!

Wonderful choice Katie!, We stayed at La Mamounia which is decadent Moroccan heaven (even if you are not staying there please go have a wander around, or go for drinks in the Churchill bar which has been operating since the 1920’s!) We had an amazing meal at GastroMK (we thought if it was good enough for Jamie Oliver it was good enough for us!), and it most certainly was. We also used an excellent guide while there, I would be happy to email you his details if you wish.

Not certain of your budget…suggest Riad El Fenn. Vanessa Branson (sister of Richard…. who has his own place Tamadot in the Atlas Mtns.) is one of the partners; it is design-forward, and attracts a similar clientele. For over the top design check out the Royal Mansour, you do not have to be a hotel guest to visit the bar or have dinner.

Hi Katie, my husband and I will be traveling to Morocco in December, and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind passing along the guide’s information (that I presume was exchanged in the above comments via email)? I would love to have a great rec on where to start. Thanks so much, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for reading The Neo-Trad. I booked a tour through Tours By Locals and was really pleased with my guide, Khalid (see link below). He grew up in the Marrakech medina and knew everyone maze-like corner of the city. Have an amazing time!
