I was over the moon this morning when I learned that Sotheby’s London will be auctioning off the collection of Deborah, the Duchess of Devonshire (one of the six famous Mitford sisters). The late Duchess was an English style icon and her home, Chatsworth, is one of the finest estates in England. I ate up her memoir, Wait for Me!, and have always admired the down-to-earth duchess’ fine taste in fashion and decor. The auction, which will take place March 2, includes over 450 pieces, from a brass lobster inkwell to a first edition of Evelyn Waugh’s beloved novel, Brideshead Revisted. Simon is encouraging me to hop on a plane to London to catch the preview (Feb 27-March 1), but I’m torn as we will have just arrived in Copenhagen. Sotheby’s preview of Brooke Astor’s estate in New York was one of the most inspiring exhibitions I’ve ever seen… What do you think, should make the trip?! Learn more about the upcoming sale here.

Of course you should go – this ought to be amazing! Went to Chatsworth this summer and it was absolutely breathtaking. Will put that memoir at the top of my reading list! X
My goodness go! How many opportunities do we ever get access from this sort of legacy and history? Debo was an amazing woman from an amazing family of women (politics aside). Avail yourself if only just to be part of the whirl. What fun!
