Birkenstocks – would you or wouldn’t you? I was skeptical at first, but then my stylish friend Tracy arrived at happy hour sporting a pair of Arizonas and I was quickly convinced otherwise. Now they keep cropping up in my instagram feed on all the coolest editors and of course, I find myself longing for a pair (which will give my California hippie father a good chuckle). Did you know Birkenstocks have been around for over 200 years? Plus, they’re under $100 and last forever. That, my friends, is chic.

UPDATE: I got these and I LOVE them. Tip: They run wide, I ordered the narrow width and they fit perfectly.

I wear mine around the house as slippers, but I recently met up with some friends wearing them. They were super complimentary about how cool I looked in them, so I’m definitely trying to work them into my outside wardrobe a bit more.

I know, I am most likely your only “child of the 60s” subscriber; but just had to chime in here and say that I bought my first pair of Birks in 1967 while living at the beach in SoCal. Have continued to buy and wear a variety of styles ever since. So, guess it’s safe to say I love them! And, yes, your hippie California dad is chuckling, I’m sure.

CoffeeCup – Love that you were being so chic around the house and you didn’t even know it. Sign of a trendsetter.
Tanya – This made me smile so much! I think my dad has been wearing them in CA for over 40 years. Which makes you two pretty much the coolest :) xx

I love my Birks! I have two pairs of Gizehs, one in black and one in bronze. Super comfortable – I broke my first pair in over three days in Moscow & never looked back!

Hmmm. I live in Oregon so birkenstocks have always been associated here with ‘hippies.’ But, honestly, I feel like their styles have definitely become more polished and modern. Definitely considering a pair (or two)…

Yes! I love my brown Arizonas. I started wearing them frequently to school and the trend has caught on! I see people wearing them with both casual and more dressy outfits. Plus, they’re so comfortable!

I had never given Birkenstocks much thought, but those pictures are definitely convincing me otherwise…I think I may need a pair!

I’m not so sure about them but maybe it will just take some time for me to get used to them! I do love how they are styled in the first picture though! x

ugh this trend is making me crazy I don’t know how I feel about this I go back and forth every day. I have to say the black ones are growing on me. I have a light tan pair but they don’t feel stylish enough to me.

I don’t think that I could go there.

I used to love my Birkenstocks. I think the thong style are okay now, but I don’t think I’d ever go back to the double strap!

I’m a huge fan of my white patent gizehs – they even make my pasty pale legs look tan!

I am a conservative attorney from CT. – I love my Birkenstocks. Once you wear them, you will always want a pair.
