These vintage 1950’s gowns from Timeless Vixen are almost too sweet for words. I especially love how they’ve been styled with a bold strand of pearls. Wouldn’t you feel like the impeccably poslished Betty Draper donning one to a cocktail party? I’d want to flit about the room all night watching the skirt twirl! What do you think? Cute, costume-y or a little bit of both?
I love these- yes, they’re a little costumey, but so lovely it shouldn’t matter!
A little bit of both…I think that’s the charm of these vintage dresses! Making such a bold era statement with the dress, you can play around with the accessories and hair and makeup. thanks for sharing.
Best,
Anna
These are so charming and lovely! I have photos of my mom dressed like this!
That second dress just has me written all over it. And I think these are all cute — I’ve no doubt there are ways that these can be accessorized so you don’t feel like you just stepped out of the 1950s (though that can be so very much fun).
The top two are definitely my favorite. They would be the most wearable today.
a little bit of both, i say, perfect for a formal summer dinner… i’m in LOVE! xxo, jane
the black one is AMAZING. these are my favorite kids of dresses.
i am swooning!
Lovely post!
I love the yellow floral print dress…gorgeous!
I’m in a dire need for cocktail dresses for my vintage shop…maybe I shall do a major shopping trip before it gets cold.
Best Wishes!

p.s. I’m thankful for finding your blog…it truly is superb!
A little bit of both…but all around heavenly.
Stephanie — I wish my mom had dressed like this! Photos from her in college in the seventies are not exactly the same style ; )
Mod Human Vintage — Thank you for you kindness and welcome! The yellow just may be my favorite too : )
That little rose printed number has my name on it! I don’t think there’s anything better than a full-skirted day dress, the more costume-y, the better!
Oh, I love all of the dresses from that Etsy seller! I wish I had been born in the 50’s!
JUST LOVE THE FIFTY’S! SOOOO….. GLAMOROUS AND CHIC. MY FAMILY USED TO STAY ON BALBOA ISLAND FOR OUR SUMMER VACATIONS. I HAVE A VAGUE MEMORY OF MY MOM AND HER GIRLFRIEND SEEING HUMPHREY AND BOGART SAIL INTO THE BALBOA YACHT CLUB AND JUST FEELING OVER THE MOON ON SPYING THEM! WHAT A DYNAMIC COUPLE THEY WERE! LOVE THAT THESE FASHIONS ARE MAKING A COME BACK, ALTHOUGH, I DON’T THINK THAT UNDENIABLY ROMANTIC TIME CAN BE RECREATED.
SORRY… I MEANT BECALL!!! MY BRAIN AND HANDS ARE IN ALIGNMENT TODAY!
Definitely a little of both. I think the thing that throws them most into costumey land is the pearls. Ditch the pearls and go for more modern accessories and you’re golden!
That Etsy seller has been a favorite for awhile; everything is in great condition! I’m so stuck in the past that vintage clothing seems normal to me, and less costume-y. :) I love dressing up!
I ADORE THESE. You just brightened my day which started off on a less than grand note. Oh these are just too sweet for words. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. x Emily
Given the chance, I’d wear any of these dresses – Costumey or not! The top one is really gorgeous and definitely my favorite.
Definetly CUTE! I have been wanting to get a vintage 1950’s housedress to wear on days when I am cleaning my house. A little June Cleaver action to brighten the mundane housework. Each of the flower patterns would work beautifully for that I think. The blue one would be fun for a Sunday matinee at the ballet.
Love these dresses!
