Brooklyn Plaster Artisan Stephen Antonson

Lately, I’ve been coveting the handsome plaster creations of Brooklyn artisan Stephen Antonson. Inspired by the work of 20th century masters like Giacometti and Jean Michel Frank, Stephen creates a striking array of chalky white tables, mirrors, lighting, and decorative objects. Each piece is painstakingly crafted using a steel armature that is then wrapped with gauze and layered with shellac, liquid plaster, and primer. A single large scale work takes Stephen weeks to complete. Back in 2012, the artist collaborated with West Elm, and I’m kicking myself for not having snatched up the entire collection.
